Hi guys! I have an Land rover 19jtd. When i start the car it smokes a lot and oil smell. Once started and accelerated significantly, the engine seems to be uncorking it makes a cloud of oil smoke and then it no longer smokes excessively. Has anyone had a similar experience? Injectors are ok, time belt is fit ok. I think that problem was with valves.

What colour is the smoke? Black? White? Or blue?

And where is it coming from? Tailpipe? Under the bonnet?
hello. thanks for your interest. the smoke is white on blue. it comes out of the exhaust as soon as you start it up to the first acceleration, then i have a feeling as if the engine is uncorking, after which it stops smoking. except on descents, when i don't press the accelerator. i've already looked inside the valve cover cap you can see a little smoke when the engine is running. there is no oil in the air filter bowl.

White smoke = unburnt fuel or coolant. If its cold...more likey unburnt fuel. Coolant would have other symptoms...loss of coolant being one of them.
Blue = oil. At startup probably running past valve stem seals. (On Chieftain tanks this was normal thanks to the design of the engine, being a vertically opposed 2-stroke diesel...it triggered a memory...I digress).
Black = overfueling or injectors not so great as once was.

All will need an investigation to dig into root cause.

Others may be along to chip in and suggest stuff I have forgotten.
