I've run a LR Disco 3.9 V8 auto on lpg for 2 years and 35000 miles.
The most important thing to remember about converting to lpg is that it
needs a very healthy spark and that performance will be compromised if you
run it on lpg using petrol timing - lpg really needs to be advanced quite
abit to run well. I've fitted quality magnecor leads and a box that advances
timing on lpg by 16 degrees. These two things transformed it from OK on lpg
to much better than on petrol. It now easily outperforms petrols ones on gas
and is much more torquey.
As for costs it does about 17mpg on petrol and 15 - 17mpg on gas. At the
price I pay for lpg that works out to a cost equivalent of around 35mpg
which is very good for an enthusiastically driven V8 I think.
If you are interested in lpg availability have a look at

Good luck.
