Hello :)
O.K. heres one for the boffins, Whats the difference between the long and short engines (apart from the obvious so no sarcasm  )

short injuns are a bare block and head with no bits like alternator and manifolds fitted.. long injuns are much more complete... it hard to say exactly as different builders have different ideas about what makes up a short or long engines.

Land rover short engine (V8 for instance) comes as block, cam, crank, pistons, rods.

A long engine will have the heads, rocker gear and a sump.

All other land rover engines come as what they call a "stripped assembly". this is basically an engine with no ancillaries, so its really a long engine but with a different name.
