Hi has anyone lifted the 200 tdi engine and gearbox and trans box all in one piece using long reach crane lifting etc ?? Reason I ask is I have a disco 200 tdi and I want the engine and trans and put it into my defender. Easier in one pie e or in split engine from gear and tranny ?

Scrappyloz and i did it. Not easy and you wont use the gearbox anyway as they are slightly different.

You need a very flat floor as its heavy as hell all combined. Put blocks under gearbox and removed crossmember. When you lift engine transfer will want to drag. We brought it out part way then split engine and gearbox. Move engine away and easier lift for box.

Check the searches for conversions.

I have tried to do this before, and by the time we had finished buggering about trying to lift the engine and trans out as one unit, it would have been quicker, easier & less painful to have separated them and reassembled them in the new vehicle.

Chunky monkey. Yeah will chuck the gearbox into boot and scrap the disco. Just need engine and tranny. Martin1512. So it is easier to split in vichele then. Ok cheers. Reason I asked was would it be quickier etc but I gather not. Can I leave gearbox in disco when I pull engine out and tranny out. Will gearbox stay balanced while I tow it to the scrap ??

http://photobucket.com/strippingthediscoSell the gearbox, you will make more than the weights worth. If the teeth at the transfer box were good worth gunking and cleaning to sell. I have one on eb&% at the mo.

Keep the props if they are any good. Take absolutely everything out the engine bay like heater, steering pumps etc, pipes, and make sure you take the fuel filter housing as need that.

Keep all the cooler, oil and header pipes too. You can use some of them. Makes life easier.

I chucked the td engine in mine to weigh it in. Got just short of £200. Before you weigh it in go under disco with a funnel and fuels canisters. Plastic fuel tank, cut a hole. I got 15 litres out of mine. Tell them you have drained liquids, they class as car iron then. Better rate.

Are you selling interior, lights, door cards, sunroofs ( sold pair for £80), centre console, light guards, hand brake lever. It all sells. If you keep steering pump etc and good knick worth keeping as transferable as a spare. Use a trailer and loosen nuts on wheels. Take wheels off. They sell.

Just done it myself. :D

have done 3 engine transplants and evertime we split engine from gearbox far less hassle and not to mention a lot lighter..

if your doin it in a yard like we were that has a gravel base u wouldnt want to be trying to lift and then move it all still connected
