Looking for recommendations for an LED main beam upgrade kit for my 2007 Freelander. I have had a look and it would appear there are a number of kits from £30 - £130 . Has anyone done this with success and can point me in the right direction please.

Are you keeping the normal lights and adding 'spot' lights that come on with the main beam or wanting to change the existing bulbs?

If you want more main beam light, fit a light bar.
If not install better bulbs. I use Philips Vision Racing GT200 in both dip and main beams. I don't believe I need more light, as there is plenty available for any road conditions.

It's always been a bit murky legally with it technically being against regs but in practice not checked so long as beam pattern etc is OK however MOT inspection guidelines were updated in '21

Brexit 2021 Update
Please note that since January 2021, the MOT Inspection manual has been updated to include LED bulbs.

Section 4.1.4 now states the following:

“Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.”

This is a brand new update that seems to only focus on headlights.

There are no mentions to fail other LED bulbs such as brake lights, tail lights or reversing lights.

Looks like I will be sticking with what I have got. I will however need to change the bulb holders as one of them has got very hot at some point of its life.

Fit led bulbs then ch@nge them before your next mot if your worried @bout them.
Th@ts wot everyone else is doing.

I fitted them in my tr@nny n it p@ssed the mot l@st month.
The noo roolz say you can't fail 'just because it's been converted'. MOT can't check pattern and LED can't dazzle because for some strange reason 'they don't need lenses' regardless of brightness

Don't be silly!!

If people don't want to be harmed then they shouldn't be on the road. Or in the office!
"Everyone else has to put up with it, so should you"
