Hi all, been thinking of draining the oil from swivel housing as oils leaking from chrome balls, is it worth draining and replacing with Greece,if so what's the Greece called? Thanks

It might be your seal has gone so might be worth stripping down and rebuilding (its what I plan on doing to mine this week once I get the doors back on). I think the grease you are on about is one shot. The grease might not stop the leak but it might just make it leak slower due to the thicker viscosity

I bought 'CV Grease' from Halfords ('Comma' brand). It comes in 500ml tins. You'll need 2 tins because each swivel takes 375ml to fill (don't over fill!). Drain out the existing oil and use a 50ml plastic syringe (can be bought in Boots the Chemists) to suck out the grease from the tin and inject it into the swivel housing through the access plug.
Works a treat provided the chromed swivel balls are not corroded and the leaks are not too heavy. If the swivel leaks badly, using CV grease will slow the leak but not stop it. This is a 'fix', not a long term solution for a vehicle which will have a lot of use.
[BTW, as far as I'm aware it's identical to the 'one shot' to which others are referring.]

One shot is good only if the seals are really bad it will leak.
I used it for years , when's its time for mot clean them up
If your going off roading and in water then I would advise having them done other than that try one shot first saves time and money

Do rubber gaiters help with one shot?
My worry would be keeping water and dirt out.

When you say your worried about water are you talking rain on the roads and puddles if so not an issue more of submerging.
If your going for the gaiter you might as well do the seal as you got to take it apart the gaiter is more of a gimmik to protect the chrome ball its the seal that holds the grease in not the gater !

I am not a lover of the one shot stuff. Remember that the upper king pin /railko bush relies on EP90 oil being flung up by universal joint. If you have free wheeling hubs be sure to lock them up every week or two to keep top bush lubricated. I run one side of my 88 with one shot due to poor swivel condition it leaks very slightly with EP90 but not with one shot. I have modified the top swivel pins on mine to take a grease nipple. A drilling and a groove for the grease to go in to completes the job and an occasional pump of grease in there gives peace of mind and does no harm.
