Help please guys. I have an 03 diesl rover with a now major battery related problem. The problem started a month ago after leaving it to go shopping returning to a total flat battery no lights or signs of life after an hour. Replaced the battery with a new one drove home no problem then all of a sudden after trying to start it there was a “Click” then nothing. Recharged the battery and all was well for quite a few weeks until last week when it did it again with the wife driving it. I have since replaced the starter and yesterday was turning over like a gooden on every attempt. Left it overnight then today same again lights will come on the engine clicks but won’t turn over. So either something is draining the battery over night ? Or a short ? Or immobiliser? HELP PLEASE AS IT IS STUCK IN A GARAGE THAT WE NEED TO GET INTO. Cheers in advance .
 
Check your earths.
A poor earth will give the impression of a flat battery on starting, and it will not take a charge from the alternator.
 
Check out your alternator is actually charging you ant 14.8v at 2000rpm with every thing on light heater the lot, then you need to check that the alternator regulator pack on the back is not feeding power back which will cause your battery to drain in short order.

Its a known fault the alternator regulator throwing a wobbler, I mean we are talking range rovers here, known for there reliability :D
 
The L322 has known battery drain issues....

The chief of which is the Final Stage Resistor - this will drain a battery quick quickly!

The Headlamp Wipers not parking correctly is another prime suspect, and also damp in the left/hand rear quarter of the boot can cause battery drains too......

Might be time to pull fuses and check with an ammeter for a drain!
 
+1 on an earth issue. Just had almost identical a few days ago. Been having battery issues, as most, who read the RR threads will know. Got the drain sorted, new battery and a couple of days later, loaded to travel down south and damn thing wouldn't start. I immediately blamed the battery. Nice man from AA discovered it wasn't getting a good earth. Created a good earth, which will have a more permanent fix on return home, and Bob's your aunties uncle.
Which reminds me, @Saint.V8 / @holidaychicken or others, where is the engine earth on the early L322? Please and thank you, very kindly.
 
I’ll have a look in Rave, I remember a page somewhere showing all the earth points.

I'll get it up on ramps when I get home. See if maybe 557 is what I'm after. All I know is he said a bad engine earth.

Nice man already did so. Otherwise f#$%@ng thing wasn't even going to leave my drive to head to London. Also the phrase 'drive carefully' is like Kryptonite to me :eek::eek::eek: I have written off two Volvos in my driving life, both times the last thing said , as I set off was " drive carefully" . So please my high heeled, gold lamè dress wearing, chum, retract that statement ;)
 
If it is a td6 then it has an earth from air con compressor to body which puts 557 in right sort of place but you have to drop the under shield to see it, hope that helps. and sod drive carefully do your best to cut every body up on roundabouts, is that better ?
