Hi all
Right on my 03 l322 me steering wheel was slightly of center so since I had some new tyres a few month ago when I got the car I thorght I should have the alignment checked. So I sourced someone who said cod do the alignment and he checked on with it. He told me and showed me the results and it showed the rear right wheel was out so he would correct it. Fine crack on. He told me he had adjusted the alignment on that wheel and the front tracking because the rear needed changing. So now I have a car that feels no differant to drive but the steering wheel is now central.

Now my problem 5 miles later after the above I get HDC inactive and air suspension inactive. So I thorght it was a fault and took it to the garage where I borght the car from in the first place as he said he would help if ever needed. When I told him what I did he told me that the whole alignment had been done wrong making the car pick up issues and miss alignment with the steering wheel. So I called the guy who did the alignment and told him. His respons was ... Well there was some play in a bush before I re aligned the car so maby that's why!... So now I'm
Left with a car that has alignment issues and in a result it's brought warnings up on the dash.
So do I get him to put the alignment back to what it was and that will take off the warnings or do I now pay for someone to un f@£k his f%#k up

Kind of correct...

The L322 has a steering angle sensor to give steering input information to the ABS ECU...

If the SaS is out of calibration the ABS ECU will register a fault, this unit also controls HDC so that goes into fault too...the EAS goes out in sympathy as the DSC that uses the EAS system is also controlled via the ABS ECU.....

Try turning the ignition on and start the car....then turn the steering wheel full lock left and hold for 3 secomds, then full lock right and hold for 3 seconds and then back to centre and see if this cancels the warning as this process resets the SaS back to centre.

Whether or not the alighnment change confused it or not I don't know....doubtful, but plausible.

Try the lock to lock and report back....if it continues, look at your ABS sensor wiring as the fronts tend to rub causing the same symptoms....(check my threads from June 2012)

If they are sound, time for a diagnostics check....
 
I had the same issue after doing the tracking. The fault was steering angle sensor IIRC.
I re calibrated it and cleared the fault with the hawkeye and sorted.
 
Saint, I tried the lock to lock to 'reset' mine prior to re calibrating it.

It worked for a bit, then throw the fault a few days later. I think the tracking adjustment 'changes' the calibration of the sensor, hence i had to re calibrate it .

Surprised an alignment check/change caused SaS errors and this is mounted on the steering column and doesn't care where the steering wheel is pointed as long as the SaS knows where the centre of itself is...but these are complex beasts with Prima Donna Diva syndrome so anyone messing with them and they throw allsorts of hissy fits :D

Perhaps that's where the issue lies? it's adjusting where it thinks the centre of itself is (the SAS sensor). And throws a bit fat hissy. :D

It didn't throw the fault immediately, about 50 miles after tracking was adjusted :confused:
 
I tryed the lock to lock thing and nothing. I took it to the garage where I got the car from and he has put a test book on and re aligned the steering wheel and the fault is still there. On his test book it comes up priming pump fault on the air suspension fault list. The compressor is working fine. This alignment has messed with something and I've looked at the front wheels and one if the tyres is feathering in the inside and the other on the out side all since this cowboy has played with my beloved . But I don't no what do do now. Do I go back tomorrow and get the alignment set back to what it was in hope it will all right it's self or do I start paying for further diagnostic ?
 
With what ive seen at work, adjusting the tracking shouldnt cause a fault unless it is way out. To check tracking it should be done with the steering wheel in the neutral straight ahead position and then adjust via the track rod. Has said cowboy just took the steering wheel off and moved it, ive not personally done an l322 so dont know if the steering wheel trick is possible.

I would find a automotive place that has a 4 wheel laser alignment machine and not someone with a cheap hang on wheel jobby. When we send ours out for 4 wheel alignment the guys we send it to have a decidated ramp and a hawkeye 4 wheel alingment machine and it has to be in tight tolerance mode before any adjustment is made ie locked in normal high via sdd testbook or the likes.

If you get the alignment done correctly thats is the first port of call , and cheapest to put right first, the car was ok before alignment and now its gone wrong. Start with the thing you touched last.
 
It was meant to be a new state if the art machine that attached to the wheel rims. If the aliment is not the issue what could it be ?
 
It could of been new state of the art machine but if the machine has wrong input from the operator it aint going to be right, the machine is only as good as the operator im afraid.

the sas, abs, eas is all linked together so it could be anything.

I would get the alignment checked from the people who altered it, the machine is state of the art, it should log what it was to what it was adjusted to, as a reference point.
 
I think I will get it put back tomorrow and then see what happends. Will I have to reset the steering sensor again ?
 
Might be worth trying a simple hard reset of the cars systems by disconnecting the battery for 15 mins
Then reconnect and calibrate steering angle sensor by full locking the steering left and right
 
no way will he be able to put it back to where it was its impossible(unless he has a copy of original settings which I doubt) + he should not even have started the alignment procedure knowing a component was worn(bush) as any worn steering/suspension parts will give false reading, upon noticing this he should have aborted the procedure, ive aligned plenty of range rovers + other makes with sas & never had any issues I personally would say its just a unlucky coincidence this has happened.the only other wild card is he has disturbed something while rattling his spanners when adjusting.oh & was the vehicle running & sitting on turnplates ? you stated the tyres are feathering 1 x inside 1x outside so the toe settings are way out,was this previous to adjustment as you would have pulling issues im not surprised it didn't turn circles on its own when you let go of the steering,does it drive straight line now after he has set it up ?

Before it did slightly pull to the left and the steering wheel was slightly of center hence why I took it in. I have the print out with the original values so can it be done still. He only told me about the warn bush after he did the car and I said the same thing. So ifi take the battery off for 15 minutes not going to double fu&k things up?

She was on a ramp on turn plates on the from and engine off

Engine needs to be running to ensure the suspension heights are maintained...

The L322 uses indpendant suspension unlike the P38....as the suspension moves the wheel moves in an arc i.e. as the wheel descends (the body rises) it moves inwards and vice versa, if the body drops (wheel rises) it moves outwards....

To test the theory, jack the body up so the wheel is off the floor, then lower the body again, as the wheel touches the floor it is inboard and as weight is applied, the wheel will start to try and move outward again to settle this can pull on the tyre sidewall and after you have de-jacked a quick roll forward and back should allow the wheel to settle back to its original position.
 
Ok so had the tracking re set and had a snap on test book read the car. No steering faults just a fault code 88 pre charge pump fault

Anyone
 
Pre Charge Pump is part of the ABS system....

Remember if the ABS system goes into fault, you will lose EAS, DSC HDC and of course ABS, along with CBC and EBC

+1 ant that's what made me think poss slip on spanners & snagged something loose or maybe he used a gas torch to free up rod ends and damaged a wire tbh anything is poss & he aint going to tell you is he:(
