Well What can i say, Just when i thought my problems were over. I had the car ecu recoded and it was running fine,,,, Untill! I started the car on the drive this morning, and noticed the drivers side bank was running a little, well very tappety, I got out walked round the front of the car pulled the bonnet and could smell oil... On looking under the car there was oil just running out! I turned it off quickley! after around an hour of looking, starting and stopping I found the the oil was comming from the rear crankshaft oil seal. I called a friend at a garage and he said with a low milage engine like mine and the rattling sound it could be a breather or some sort of blokage. Ive looked on rave and cant find a breather layout anywhere.. Any ideas, Help Needed! L322 4.4 V8

Check out the PCV valve and hoses to the back of the engine - these little geezers get blocked up and over pressurise the system blowing oil out of everywhere....

Just watched them, that looks like just the problem.. im going to pick one up tomorrow, i'll let you know how i get on

Well spoke to the stealer today £72 with the vat, not to bad. Should be here in the morning. so fingers crossed!

could i suggest you get the breather checked/replaced as well. Not expensive and a known source of problems when left unchecked

I there is two sets of hoses to change on those while you are changing one, why not change the other as well !

thanks for the help, right ive changed all the breather pipes, no joy, ive ended up buying a new crank shaft seal and we are in the process of removing the gearbox to replace it.. i'll let you kno how i get on.. needless to say, im starting to get a little stressed lol

Ouch! Blowing the crankshaft seal is one of the old Rover V8's favourite tricks - progress eh? Good luck mate, but make sure that isn't a symptom of another problems or you'll be tearing the gearbox off again after the new ones goes - blocked breathers could create enough crankcase pressure to blow crank seals.

You would have needed to buy one in anycase....once it has been comprimised, it needs replacing along with the breather hoses....it is not a case of replace hoses and PCV and all is hunky dunky....the CC seal needs to be done also.....
