No surprise there with my low weekend only mileage. I thought if it did fail it would only the vehicles exhaust emissions, a CAT may have thrown a wobbly something I don't have the means of checking, I don't have any chassis/floor] rust so no worries there.

Did have two advisory items which I never worry about.
1. O/S front ball joint dust cover damage.. (a small split) well I knew that, and purchased a replacement ball joint back in 2011 but nothing was mentioned till to day, so a little job for me, may just only replace the "dust cover" I have one or two somewhere.
2. Rear diff stabilizer arm ball joint boot slightly split.. ( big split looks like its been torn apart) get that done next year when it goes in for a service cant see me doing that as a DIY. I could bodge with self amalgamating tape

No mention of the rear top damper bushes being slightly worn or the 10mm ring of rust on the face of both the rear brake disc from the last years advisory.
In 2010 I had an advisory for a small chip in the windscreen that was my first.. come-on it's been there for the last 10 years I said. As I said I don't worry about them, it states nothing I don't know already.

So till the disco's next MOT 18/09/2016 if I still own it, something I didn't know is you can not now get a MOT in an advance a month or so what ever it was as we use too.

rear diff stabiliser arm? is that the anti roll bar?

'rear diff stabiliser arm' is the 'A' frame below the boot floor in front the fuel tank connect to the rear diff with a ball joint.

ahhh yeah now I gets ya, sorry I had had a few bottles last night and that bit slipped my mind! you have to press that in don't ya? (the ball joint that is)

Yup that's the one, it must be one of the only things along with rubber bushes that a D1 has that can't be repaired by the road side and with DIY tools. If this ball joint fails it knocks or clonks when turning into a bend/corner but it doesn't require a seeing to straight away, I know this as I had the one on my old RR fail and some months later it was replaced.

Any way I did my usual pre MOT check but have never given a thought to this part so didn't go there, anyway its seem that having a iffy 'boot' dust cover, what ever u wish to call them isn't a fail... in my case anyway.

A frame ball joint repair with self amalgamating tape to do a repair is a non-starter, to much dust and grease on the tape for it to stick, so plan B a big dollop of spray waxoyl over the damaged area and get the joint replaced next year when if for service.

With the steering ball joint although I have a replacement ball joint on the shelf to fit I took the easy option and replaced the shroud.
I wish I had replaced the whole joint with being unable to remove the split pin for a start so shearing it off by undoing the19mm nut and then trying to fit the large clip back on the fitted shroud that took half hour trying different options, then being unable to drill out the old split pin due to a blunt bit and then breaking the bit and then finding a suitable locking nut.. the job of replacing the shroud took two hours from jacking up to remove the wheel to lowing it back down and tools away job done.
