Hello All,
My name is Simon, and my long time obsession with Land Rovers and more generally 'V8's has finally landed me in trouble!
I wanted a Range Rover since they first came out (yes, I'm that old & have the I Spy book to prove it) but for years have had faster & small 4WD cars in the shape of Imprezas. I finally got permission to buy a LR from my dear wife 'if it will get it out of your system'. I bought a '99 Disco 2 ES with 122k at the end of November, & all went well for a scant 3 weeks until I had the coolant flushed. That must have removed copious quantities of radweld or similar, because two days later she terminally overheated.
I was determined not to quit (it wasn't yet out of my system) & thanks to a garage managing to set fire to the car after recovery I managed to get most of the way toward an engine rebuild budget. The block has new liners courtesy of the most expert John Eales. The adventure now continues as I put the thing back in the car.
I swear I'm so close to having it running again I can taste it, but a combo of not having taken the induction & heads off plus rather vague manual wording is making the top end rebuild challenging. I should explain I dropped the lump back in without heads just to give me winching clearance. Heads are back on now, as is the fuel rail. Hopefully with help from this forum I can get it roadworthy again before its MoT expires!
Cheers All.
