The airbox on my 1994 Classic has cracked (I think for a large backfire when it ran out of LPG a few months back) and need a new one.

It has the later model serpentine belt 3.9 V8 with the square airbox - is this an identical part to the one fitted on the 4.0 P38 and the Disco 1 3.9 V8 and Disco II 4.0 V8 engines? As there's loads on them on eBay but none listed for the Classic!

Not having my copy of MicroCAT at work, hard to say....

Have you tried looking at the product listings on Island 4x4 or Paddocks, MM4x4 John Craddock et al....and check the part numbers.?
 
I have had a look but can only find filter elements, not the air box itself - and not sure if the mounting lugs would be in the same place or not!
 
I will take a look at MicroCAT and see if anything pops up on that when I get home this evening and report back.
 
Have found this online, looks like a guy with a P38 (square plastic airbox) has used the older metal cylindrical ones from an early Classic and Disco 1 V8:

He did it because he kept blowing apart the plastic ones when it backfired on LPG. Mine rarely backfires TBH, only if it tries to switch over when too cold or running out, but that is why I need a new ones, as mine has blown apart from a big backfire when it ran out once!

So I could just get one of the metal ones, of which there arte plenty on eBay, and use that. Question is though, when it does backfire, where does the pressure go? Although I guess plenty of early Classic's have LPG and must survive!

You can get 'Flapper' valves to fit between the gas ring and the MAF to protect against dmage, the pressure is then diverted out the flap instead of through the MAF and air box...

Google it and fleabay it, you may find the sort of thing I am on about....

I think I already have one, fitted to the side of the lid of my airbox, so perhaps I could relocate that somewhere - not on the metal airbox, though?
