I had an irritating problem with drivers door catch, when shutting the door the catch failed to hold the door shut 9 out of 10 attempts, it was possible to overcome this problem by pushing down the lock button then pulling it back up again then pushing the door shut, I dismantled the door trim, removed the door-glass frame, left the glass near the top of its travel with athin bit of wood to prevent it flopping over, remoed the lock only to find it was brand new, the usual spring was ok,everything was operating fine,so I set about shoveing it back, checking the operation of the lock with every link I replaced, all worked fine, then I set about fitting window frame, easy enough to do,I fitted the 2 bolts at the bottom of the glass guides, the 2 top bolts at the front rail but did not fully tighten the rear rail top bolt, fitted the trim, tried all the handles/locks again fine, I lit a fag feeling all pleased with myself, opened and closed the door, fine, remembered I had not tightened the top glass guide bolt, so tightened it, finished--------NO, tried to close the door--catch not working again, after much swearing and head scratching I found the problem,it was that last bolt I tightened, when slackened off all was well, Conclusion, the guide rail was jamming the lock when top bolt fully tightened,I can only assume a shimming washer has been ommitted when the new lock was fitted. time for a pint and another fag.
