Just been to pick up the eldest lad from work, on the way, had an intercooler hose (I/C to intake manifold) pop off. (Sudden loss of power gave it away) is this just one of those things/came loose or could there be an underlying problem?

I'm having the same problem. Silicon hose, mikalor clamp and a standard EGR replacement pipe.
If the clamp overlaps the end of the pipe it squeezes itself off. The tighter the clamp, the quicker it squeezes off.
If I position the clamp further up it is right at the edge of the hose, in which case the hose squeezes from under the clamp. Again the tighter it is clamped the quicker it happens.

I've tried a standard rubber hose, but it was way too small.
I've tried a standard jubilee clamp. Not tight enough.
I've tried self-amalgamating tape to give the clamp better grip. This delayed the squeezing, but only by a few minutes.
I've tried an EGR replacement pipe with a bigger knurl on the end to prevent the clamp slipping off. Slightly better, but off within 10 miles.

I've ordered a new EGR replacement pipe which is 110mm long vs 100mm (standard) which should allow the clamp to be attached well away from the end of the pipe and the end of the hose. I'm hopeful.
If this fails I will try to commission a slightly longer silicon hose - any recommendations on maunfacturer?

Yes. I did think it might be the 'flared' bit on the end of the stainless steel pipe. Probably not the best grip. I've tightened it to within an inch of its life now so hopefully....

I changed my hoses for silicone ones about a month ago by using the original clamps and after about 100km the hose between turbo metal pipe and IC came off. I have removed all of them, cleaned all connections (must not be oily) and used special hose clamps (see attached photo). It is stable now after about 400kms.

Those are Mikalor clamps, same as I am using. As long as the hose has plenty of overlap and the end of the pipe has a pronounced lip, they work very well and can be tightened far more than a jubilee clip.

Temporary fix seems to be working. I've wrapped some self-amalgamating tape around the end of the EGR-replacement pipe and so far the silicone hose has not slipped over it. I also have self-amalgamating tape on the outside of the hose to prevent it slipping under the clamp. Long term fix is a longer pipe and/or longer hose to give a better overlap.
