hi all I have just bought a 2002 4.6 p38 and only half the digital display on the instrument cluster lights up so no idea if or how many faults it has! is it a bulb or was this deliberate sabotage by previous owner?

The BEEP number BEEP of BEEP beeps will BEEP tell you how many BEEPing faults you have.
If i recall 2 bulbs for the LCD backlight and the other warning lights are individual bulbs

Thanks for the quick replis again. I think it beeped twice whwn i turn the key on.. I swore i wouldn't have a car that beeped at me! Hopefully it is just a bulb then although the previous owner had no history or spare key that it had two years before! luckily it seems to run well and keeps its water and oil in! The gearbox seems to work ok which is a partial relief as it has no dipstick!!!! I really want to meet the person that thought that was an improvement!!! I guess the next expense is getting the fluid changed in the gearbox. The other joy is the one key which I have conflicting reports of wether you can or can't get extra keys for it. My first trip involved a lot of rain resulting in a sstrange noise from the front which sounded like a damaged electric fan but ws in fact the n/s headlamp wiper motor stuck upwarks against the headlight grille. I have for the moment jusst unplugged it so all good fun!

You can get a new FOB from a stealer at an exorbitant price. I believe there is also a company that can clone a FOB for you at a much better price.

I only ever had keys made purely of metal that you turned in the door lock to get in and the same to start it! Luckily the wife likes it and with overfinch rear exhaust it sounds very nice indeed!! I am also used to no one letting you out at junctions! Every day is part of the ever steepening learning curve !

that does sound good as the idea of sending anything as valuable as my only working key via royal snail fills me full of terror
