I have a 1.8 k freelander The problem i now have is the car revs like mad till i touch the pedal then the revs drop down to normal.

This happen when i slow down you can hear the car raceing away till i touch the pedal.

The engine ECU is not seeing a low enough voltage signal back from the throttle position sensor.Because of this it keeps the stepper motor jacked open thinking you still have your foot on the throttle. This is so it can close down from open to control the rate of deceleration, ready to accept whatever loads are thrown at it - A/C compressor, power steering pump and alternator etc.
Usually it is caused by a warped and sticking throttle butterfly,(plastic throttle body type)no free play on the cable or a shot throttle positon sensor. They sometimes need a reset on Testbook if you fit a new unit or adjust the throttle stop.
