I am trying to find out what gearbox I have in my Landrover. The serial number is 5CARB5/6072, which I have been told is not the original one.

I think its an LT77 gearbox - but how can I tell the difference from an LT77S? and why is the original serial number missing? Also there is no date stamp above the filler nut plus someone painted the gearbox green......

what a mess.....

which land rover is it? it might acctually, depending on the year be an R380 if it is a defender then it will be a long stick type as apposed to short-stick ones in discos. sorry thats all i know

not sure abt the 77 and the 77s but r380 is like a normal car layout which is 135 on top and 24R below. lt77 are R135 on top and 24 below.
