Hi

Does anyone know the correct term for the two hoses at the front end of the bonnet on a TD4 that take air to (or is it from?) the turbo? One of then is about 6 inches long and the other about 18 inches long. Both are about 4 inches diameter.

Mine look a bit manky so I thought I'd order up some new ones. However, my mate at Rimmer Bros says I need to be specific about the hoses I need.

If it's not clear which I mean, let me know and I'll photo them tomorrow and post on here!

If there the hoses I'm thinking of, the one on the right hand side (as you look at the car) is just a right angle, and the one on the left goes from the ducting on the engine to the intercooler via a bit of a tortuous route. When I replaced these, I just referred to them as intercooler hoses. The one on the right was easy to identify as it was just a right angle.

HOWEVER, beware! Armed with the engine and chassis number of my Td4 auto, I went to my local main dealer to buy the longer one. He called up the part by computer and gave me what the computer listed as the correct part (fair doos not his fault). The hose given was the right lenght and shape, but had an extra spout moulded into it, about half way down, with a sensor and two wires terminating in a plug.

After a brief dispute, he agreed to come and have a look, and conceeded that the computer was wrong. After ignoring the computer and using his knowledge, the right hose was finally found.

Don't know if it helps, but the part number for mine was PNH000020, 18.17 plus VAT.

I also posted a thread on here because the longer one is a bit tricky to change because of the jubilee clip at the intercooler end. I found the best way was to disconnect the hose at the engine end, then force the hose down the back of the dipstick to give slightly better access. Easier putting back, because the clip can be put at an angle to to give better access.

Finally, be careful of where the longer hose vibrates against the engine cover screw just after it leaves the engine. I made a modification to mine with a bit of the old hose and two steel cable ties over the top of the new hose so it would only chafe the outer old hose, which could then be replaced before it wore a hole in the new one underneath.
