Having a progressive problem with my "04 TD4. Hill descent and Traction Control lights and the temperature readout is at high at first ignition. This has recently developed where it has given poor starting and many turns of the starter motor to get it going (it is intermittent but is occurring more regularly now - when they are off it starts up first time). The temperature reading drops to 0 as the engine is cold and works normally showing the engine warming up, however HD and TC lights remain on.

I have fitted a new Bosch s5 battery which is working fine - good output etc. Also put in the brake switch and harness adapter.

Intermittent suggests a loose connection to me....not sure - any suggestions?

I used to get that...... I turned the ignition back off then on again, not starting it up until the lights were normal. Hasnt happened since I changed the foot brake switch which is the common problem for 2 amigo's TC/HDC (not 3 amigo's ABS/TC/HDC)

Thanks for the reply - did you get the eng temp gauge at the same time also?

I have replaced the brake switch. Its just weird that it all happens at the same time and delays start up.

I think the ecm is getting a wrong reading on first ignition for the engine temperature and is stopping start up for safety - however as soon as the engine runs it goes back to 0 and works normally!

Does the starter motor turn?

You may need the codes read to see if it's got a fault code to help.

Thanks for the reply - the starter motor turns fine (i replaced the battery with a Bosch S5 and had a diagnostic check on the SM and Alt and both are in very good order).

It is intermittent - when the lights are off it starts fine off 1 turn. When they are on - trouble starting.

Taking it it in on sat to have the ECU reset and faults wiped hopefully that will cure it!
