Hi,fans blow good speeds when asked, heat range adjusts perfect, all directions switch correct all switches ie seats/screens/program buttons work ok but when you switch aircon button the light above it flashes 5 times and then stops on but there is no detectable drop in temperature. I can't hear/detect any noise/click as though the compressor is kicking in but saying that the diesel noise does cover most things ?
when you press the A/C OFF button and the light flashes 5 times you are turning OFF the A/C and the system is indicating to you that it can't maintain the temp you have asked from it without the A/C. If you turn the heat up full and then turn the A/C off you will notice how the light wont flash when you press the off button.
Yes I know its weird that a light comes on when you turn the A/C off but thats just the way it is
Is the book symbol coming on straight away after starting or is it taking a few minutes to show?? The main reason the book symbol would come on straight away after start up is because of the blend motors. When I had a leaking condenser and there was no gas left the book symbol would come on after 2/3 minutes of driving, not straight away.
Even with the diesel engine the click from the compressor is easily heard when it engages, this is coupled with a brief drop in engine revs.
Before starting elsewhere check all fuses and relays related to the HeVAC system. ALSO, very importantly, check the lead that goes to the compressor. Open the bonnet and look around by the rear of the battery box, you should see a blue connector with a yellow/green wire, check this is firmly plugged in and then grab a powerful torch and look very closely at the wire where it enters the plug that goes into the compressor. I had an intermittent fault which would sometimes allow the compressor to work and sometimes not, it turned out to be a buggered lead, see the pics below...
In the end I found out this piece of feeble wire was the cause by having the engine running, A/C set to LO on both sides, blowers on full to face only. I then reached down (dont do this without wearing gloves or an old shirt as you arm will get really really oily from the turbo pipe) into the engine bay (go top side/engine side of the turbo pipe) and pushed on the connector while knocking the wire. As I did, CLICK, the compressor kicked in and ran perfectly. I thought at the time the lead wasn't plugged in properly until every few days I ended up doing this. I did some searching and found a TSB about this problem and if it was encountered to order replacement part YMQ103910 which is only a couple of quid from the dealer. After replacing the lead the A/C worked perfectly and you know when the compressor click in as it has a really positive click.
So in a nutshell, check relays and fuses and the compressor link lead. Once you have done that if you are still having trouble and the book symbol is on then get the gas checked. If it is low, when getting it recharged make sure they put the leak dye stuff in so you can figure out where its coming from should it leak again.
Do the checks first and report back with what you find.
