hi,

Used you lot before on some help and advise..

ive recently fitted a 300tdi engine from a disco into my 86 90.....after 5mins on tick over the temp gauge goes right up into the red. I've been told that its a case of changing the temp sensor? just after some help on this.

Just had this on my 200tdi and yes your right, its the wrong sender. Mine sits in the red when its at about 70 degrees, I was paranoid as fudge about it but now I know whats what im K with it, I have got a complete new gauge/sender to fit at some point but for now I know red means OK.

Same here. It should be the defender gauge that you took out of old engine if the thread matches. I have tried several. Given up. Fitted thermostatic fan and going to fit an independent temp gauge and a mud dash. Mines a 1984 so know your pain mate.

it's only the sender unit needs changing.

This is the one i purchased for my 300tdi disco now in my defender and suffered same issue.

Sorted now.

refers to colour of sender unit
