Hi All,

Does anyone have diagnostics tools for a p38 in Hampshire (Andover) I am losing the plot with my p38!! It wont accept the eka code (used to work) and comes up with 'engine disabled press remote'
The remote lights up.

The locks move whilst putting in eka code and the indicators flash to acknowledge eka code.

It has been like this for a while (see previous thread) but i thought i would give it another go today - and failed

I will of course polish your palm with some silver.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately for you I've only just seen this. I went past Andover at some speed about an hour ago!

ive sent you a pm ???????????? yesterday my phone was on silent all day but now free ok cheers mozz

Sorry guys, it's still mullered! Mozz, we kept missing each other. If the offer still stands I will try you again tomorrow? it's just been manic, the poor thing looks very sorry for itself!
Grrr, sorry I only just saw your message!
Thanks

I'll drop by next time I'm down there after I get the Nanocom back from my brother. Might be a week or 2 though.

Got the Nanocom off my brother. Should be coming past Andover Wednesday night if you're around.

I think Rick suspects that if it isn't hanging on to the EKA code then the part of the BECM that stores it is fried and I'm guessing he knows which bit to unsolder and swap/reprogram? Dark art to me but I'm interested in the theory.

His expertise in this area is legendary so I suspect he is right.

Tell you what. I'll swing by on my way north on Wednesday night and plug it in. If it is the diesel or GEMS I can probably read most things. If that fails (as it probably will) then it'll be a case of posting it to Rick and see how much he'll charge to fix it!

What procedure are you using to put the EKA in?

On my 95 DT, it never accepts it the first time, and always accepts it the second time. So it might be worth trying this sequence, in case your car is the same:

- lock car with key
- enter EKA code
- when you then turn key to unlock, it won't unlock all the doors
- open driver's door, it will beep at you (twice I think)
- close driver's door
- lock door
- enter EKA code again
- unlock door - now all doors should unlock
- get in and start engine quickly before it changes its mind!!

I appreciate this is a long shot and probably won't work in your case, but thought I would post it just in case....

Cheers

Jerry

PS I have the nanocom and have never succeeded in entereing the EKA code using it, I don't know why it doesn't work as it has the necessary option in its menus!

When mine asks for the eka code (used to happen a lot until I changed the rf unit) I always put it in with the Nanocom evo. It was easy.

The instructions sent by BBS are not very clear on this.

For the Diesel I think you have to enter the code in the Nanocom, and then write the settings over to the engine ECU.

It's not enough just to enter the code in the Nanocom.

It's a different procedure again for the GEMS and the Thor.

Grrrr knows more about this than I do!

If the car is asking for an EKA code there's no diagnostics that'll be able to read the becm. The becm is in an alarmed state.
If the Becm has alarmed itself for whatever reason, the chances are that if the car is not responding to the known working EKA code, then either, the door lock mechanism is shot, or the data inside the becm that stores the EKA would of corrupted. It usually converts itself to hex code.
Regarding the nanocom, Colin from Blackbox Box did say he was going to send me one to play with as it's quite an impressive little tool, but i'm still quite sure the software & abilities of the nanocom will not overcome this keycode lockout. I will find out for sure by emailing the guy who designed it.
