Hi
I’m hoping that someone can help identify what clutch slave cylinder this is, from my S3 diesel 1977. I have an LT76 box, suffix B
The clutch slave doesn’t appear to have the same piston size as “normal”, and none of the rebuild kits that I have tried have the correct size seal for the piston. Also, the end cap (into which the push rod goes) is much larger, at ~40mm diameter, than what comes in the kits. The aperture in the bell housing is also 40mm, so the cap fits that perfectly snugly.
Ideally I’d like to refit the cylinder I have, with replaced seals, as it is in perfect condition internally. Unfortunately I broke the seal on the piston during removal- and before I realised it was non-standard- hence my trying to find a replacement seal kit that actually fits.
I’ve ordered a complete replacement clutch slave cylinder that is meant to suit any 4cyl series but given the cap size/bell housing aperture size I am worried it is not going to be suitable. So I also need to worry about the length of the push rod? I am not sure what length it is, as I haven’t dared to try to remove it.
Various photos attached to help with possible ID.
Many thanks,
John
Ps. Given the amount of crud that is in the bell housing aperture I am also unsure as to whether the 40mm cap was doing its job anyway!
Pps. Prior to my starting my restoration, the car drove fine, no clutch issues at all.
