hi all
the hand break used to stick on on my 51 td4 but i put it down to lack of use as it only moves at weekends i used to take the hand break off and it was seised i would rock the car ie drive forward then reverse and it would free itself with a bang and all was well , anyway today i needed to use the handbreak on a really steep hill with my caravan on the back it did not hold and when i let it off the os stuck on great fun . any way got home brake shoe retaining pin to back plate snapped bits in bottom of drum. on the ns the cable for the hand break was seased so i freed it all up but the handbreake will not hold i have adjusted it it comes on and feels spungy the shoes have a bit of life left in them im stuck sorry about the spelling its the wine not me
 
Thank for that Ian! mine did the same today, not the caravan bit, the handbrake and not the stickin on bit either :rolleyes:

Sorry that edit makes no sense at all!

the problem i had was the handbrake stuck on, so! did the forward backwards bit and all ok now!
 
yu been on the wine as well, Mondeo?

hi allwell i striped it all down and the cam on the shoe where the hand break cable attaches was seized on both sides freed it of re assembled and i have something that resembles a break i am going to pull the gromets out of the back plates in the morning to see if the adjuster on the shoes has set its self as i have a feeling they have not this may explain the week handbreak i am left with
 
looks like a good strip down, grease and re-assemble might help. - a bit of TLC.

make sure yu dont get grease on the shoes.
