Hi all

My freelander td4 cut out while driving the other day and now won't start again turns over fuel pump is running as you can hear it but won't crank. Put OBD reader on and doesn't say any faults.

Any ideas guys I'm clutching at straws I have changed the MAF sensor was sure if that was at fault as it was running ruff

Did the fuel filter last night and ran for abit then stalled

Any idea greatly appreciated

You say it won’t crank… do you mean it cranks but won’t fire?

Can you read live data from the lp fuel pump and also the hp side, at the rail?

In terms of sensors - possibly the fuel pressure sensor.
The camshaft sensor would allow it to crank but not fire, but would not make it cut out whilst driving.

Its cranking but won't fire. The OBD readerr isn't telling me anything says there's no faults

I've ordered a new fuel pressure sensor and a new pump for the rear wheel arch

Cranking but won’t fire - back probe the camshaft sensor on the signal line (look at you tube ‘come in handy’ for a how-to).

IIRC;
back probe the camshaft sensor connection…
3 wires. 12v supply, signal and earth.
Meter between the earth and the signal line when cranking - looking for ~4 or 5v. My last duff one had <1v on cranking

remove the front 'land rover' stamped plastic cover.
the camshaft sensor is easy to spot .. left hand side ..

btw: as for a dodgy m.a.f. .. that can be checked by disconnecting it altogether,
as the ecu will provide a default map.
i.e. if it drives much better when disconnected .. then m.a.f. sensor likely to be failing.
a failed m.a.f. can cause a big power loss .. especially at lower rpm ,
like when starting off from a stop light .. etc.

Mac tools 1 father in law was a truck mechanic.

I've got some easy start going so well to see if that helps just to check it.

It weird that it just turns and you can hear the pump at the back running

It has been crap setting off down on power

That is classic symptom of camshaft sensor failing.
 
Cutting out and not starting could be signs of the HPFP regulator O-rings cost is about £5.22 and about an hours work to replace.

How much fuel is in the car when trying to start it, don't use to much easy start that is also not good for the engine, one quick wiff of it into the EGR and see if it runs after that forget it altogether.

Also maybe do a leak back test to see if one or more of the injectors are way out of spec.

Not really good practice to keep throwing parts at the car in hope that it my be this or that.

Diagnosis is always the best way forward.

Does that just bolt onto the back of the pump id seen that.
 
Everything that that image is showing is what it's doing
