just replaced thetiming bet on our 300 tdi.runs fine but by eck does it rattle and clatter on tick over, as this did not do so before belt was done i assume somat has gone boobs up in the cover, any help or advice would be very helpfull, having done a search i came up with nothing, so it is a puzzle.

double check that the timings all OK.. it could be a tooth out.. thats all it takes

+ I run it up without cover on to check 1st (I know no water but 30-60 secs no prob)

Did yu turn the engine over twice by hand and check settings?

agree wiv himself.

I made me own timing kit,
but buying or borrowing is a must if you cant make your own.

What is a timing kit? I was under the impression that you just set the timing after you changed the belt?

you do but you turn engine overe twice and retension belt ,as you can only tension belt between injection pump and crank as there pinned and cant turn to allow even tension on all of the belt

many thanks for the very helpfull replies lads, greatly appreciated. yes, i did use the correct timing kit locking pins and did turn it over (by hand) the recomended twice. every thing was tickety boo, so, i will strip the cover off and see what the situation is and will gladly update later, once again a big thanks for the advice,

many thanks again lads, quick up date, just stripped the timing cover off ,checked timing, one tooth out as suggested :doh::doh::doh:, so retiming and see how it goes, once again, thank you.

bloomin eckers like now she runs better. timing sorted, just got to sort the exhaust leak out now. thanks lads, your advice was spot on.

we all is on a learning curve here I guess,
and I`ve been piddling about with engines since I was about 10.

In just 1 month and I is a registered old boy then,
never thought I`d reach it, but still learning as I go.
Its when you`ve done something, and you know that its just not right,
but you`ve done it correctly, but its still a puzzle as to why.
LZ then reminds you to recheck for BIG smiles later eh..

me being a marine engineer by trade are well used to big diesels. but most of them had these things called timing chains. and have been involved with engines etc since i was a kid. but still i got it wrong you live and learn:doh: all i can say is thank goodness for landyzone
