im a new guy with a huge ambition, im a mechanic in the army and its made me some what a dab hand with landrovers.

its been a long desire of mine to buil a 90 by hand from the ground up. i have located a galvanized chassis and some second hand axles . though id prefer to find somewhere that does refurbed ones, or i may even buy a donar vehicle.

this build isnt set to happen for some time as im saving to move house , i need a new home with a garage/workshop lol. ive been nosing around a sites for parts and so on too and it seems very easy to get hold of most things but i have come unstuck with , the type of axle i need to match a 300 tdi engine set up . and i need a cab. id like to see how much it would cost to buy new.

basically im new for a shopping list, most parts i know what i need , ill be raising 2 inches to just to give it stance. i do need it to be reasonably good on road too. it will not be a harcore off roader .

i wil of course fit the nice shiney new dash and other pieces, and il be doing my best to dull the drive noise in the cab. and ill prob have two or three sets of wheel in the back of my garage. so ill be going with steelys and not alloys

so is there any advice , tips or warnings for my dream hobby to keep me busy once i have the space.

im ashamed to say it but my current car is a little corsa so im certain you can see im keen to move and build lol

hi 300 disco axles are the same ,just need to swap calipers for def ones though not necessary ,cant you refurb them ,recon ones can cost £750 -c £1000 with new brakes ,swivels etc

hhm i feared it would be costly , i might buy a donar vehicle trouble is that the cost is rising on old defenders, is the 300 tdi disco engine the same ?

probably best engine apart from temp sender ,most of the running gear will swap over and gear box can be modified to take defender gear change

hhhm i may go that way then i was reading that somebody has had to change the temp gauge, ill have a look about for a donar disco 300 tdi . they are pretty cheap.

yea im still in and enjopying every minute of it lol. id like to do a soft top but theres huge security issues and that wuld make my sound deadning task much harder, though i hav had a thought that i could get some spare doors cut em in half and take lid off for summer days lol
