Bought a 2002 Freelander S Td4 a week ago. Never owned a Landrover before. Drives well with 106k on the clock. Just done the 1 wheel up test with 8kg at 1.2 metres: 1 min 05 seconds. Is the consensus to replace the VCU with this sort of time. New to this sort of thing!

Welcome to the forum

One minute at 1.2m bar with 8kg weight is very high. Lift the rear end to see if the brakes are catching. If not then the vcu is well past it's best, assuming the test has been done correctly. I would be taking it oft and replacing it.

Thanks for the advice, the prop and VCU are off and driving 2WD for the time being. Had a rumbling (worn bearing type sound) at speed, hoping it was VCU bearing, but still noisy, think the rear diff has been taken out by the stiff VCU
