Could I damage the injectors and glow plugs if not removed before lifting the head?.Haynes says to remove them..but they do have a habit of creating move work than needed.also I already have in my spares selection a manifold gasket and rocker gasket other than the head gasket is that all I need?.

You wont damage them by lifting the head straight up. You might damage them when you put it down.

I've never taken them out whenever I've taken the head off, just put it on its side and protect the top of the injectors. Also use the drain bolt on the side of the block to get the coolant out

OK thanks for that decided to decoke as done 150,000 should I remove the deposit of coke from the top of the bore as heard it helps with compression.. Also heard you should remove all coke as can give a source of pre-ignition.

Personally I prefer Pepsi to coke:p

Get the head off and have a look first and post some pics if you want but all costs avoid doing anything that will drop crap down the bores around the edges of the pistons so don't be rubbing the deposits off with wire wool

i wouldnt bother if thats the only reason,, if you had a 1950s petrol then maybe

Take the head off and clean it using a Stanley blade or similar to scrape off any deposit and go from there, use a quality composite gasket like elring and replace the rocker cover gasket whilst you're at it
