Hi All, it has come to the point where my 300tdi defender really needs the head gasket sorted, been chuffing away for about 4 months and its just getting embarrasing now, so far ive ordered:

Head gasket kit - everything included
New set of stretch bolts
New oil filter
Oils - Castrol Magnatec (check it out, £11 off, plus with my trade card, Halfords | Castrol Magnatec 10W40 A3 B4 Oil 4 Litre )
anti freeze and stuff will be sorted by the garage

Been quoted £380 labour, sounds reasonable, what do ya all think?

If you've got all the kit, then do it yourself!!

It's a simple job!

Start to finish in a couple of hours.

thats a lot of labour for a simple head gasket.
Do the p gasket at the same time, then its all done.
You sure is the head gasket as driving it around chuffing for 4 months might have done more damage, could be in inlet manifold gasket

yeah pretty sure, had an experianced mechanic look at it and he said that until it uses a pint of oil a week then drive it till it really needs done
