all.. (especially them online now...) I can't get the last headbolt to move on my discovery V8.. any ideas?????????
 
been to halfords and bought an impact driver.. still no go as can't get the impact driver onto it... not enough room.. any other ideas... I'm panicking now....
 
Tap the head of the bolt with a small hammer several hundred times. Then try tightening it a fraction before attempting to loosen it.
 
OK.. will try that.. I've also been advised elsewhere to put a blowtorch on it... little concerned it might do harm though.. don't wanna have to buy a new head...
 
tried averything and the head is starting to round now so I am stumped.. tea time and I'll have a think after..

ever see a grown man cry over a bloody bolt before? 6 hours so far and it still wont even budge a little bit......
 
Get a short m12 or similar sized bolt and weld it to the head of the bolt. you'll have more room to manoeuvre and a bigger head = longer spanner = more leverage.
 
thats what happens to me all the time, any bolt,nut ect always ends up feckn rounded.
try and use six splined socket rather than the twelve ones. or give it bhunners of wee dunts like trewy says
 
managed to get the impact driver on it with a long bar.. no juice.. I recon if I keep hitting it surely it's gotta go yeah.. well erm.. been hitting it for 30 minutes and nowt...

can't weld... you offering :D :D

heated it with the bloow torch but a bit scaredy.. don't wanna crack the head just wanna take the damn thing off...

tea time now.. having a think.. more ideas greatfully recieved...

Yes me!!!
when trying to get the bolt undone on crankshaft damper to do timing belt. Took me over 4 days on one bolt.

Keep up with the blow torch, and hit it with hammer at same time ( mind you dont get burnt!!)
Then knock socket on, should be tight fit and use big breaker bar.

unless you've had a gas axe on it your not going to melt the head - engines are designed to get fairly hot during normal operation

heat the bolt heat to near red hot then throw a cup of cold water on it - do that 3 times then try again

do you have a large stud extrator ?

find someone to weld a crowbar to it to add more leverage
 
I'm using the halfords one that has freezing agents in.. good to know I can go to red hot..I will have another go tomoz... thanks sean..

you could nip down the plumbers centre and get a proper can of pipe freeze and give that a go. If going from redhot to ice-cold in 2 seconds dunt free it up then nothing will..:D
