Evening y'all,

I've got Defender 200 Tdi leccy woes - the 15A fuse for the hazard warning lights/gauges (2nd from the left on the top row) keeps on blowing.

I've replaced it three times, once just off the bat (it blew instantly) then once again after cleaning up all the indicator bulb contacts... same result - fairly dramatic (flash and pop) failure as soon as the battery was reconnected. I also replaced the hazard warning light switch but to no avail.

I suspect, since the fuse is blowing with the ignition turned off and only the battery connected, that the permanent live supply to the hazard light switch is shorting somewhere along the line.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Wiggly amps were never my strong point!

You could be right, but according to the wiring diagram I'm looking at, it might also be the +ve feed to the fuel, temp, oil press and brake light switch too. They are all green running from the same fuse in the fuse box, so just follow green from there as it splits in those directions.

If I were betting (and nothing has been disturbed) I'd say brake light switch, since it's the most likely to have been kicked/dislodged somehow.

Well, limited success from the last few hours of ****ing about!

The short was on the temp gauge. Somehow the input terminal had managed to wiggle its way round to touch the metal frame.

Anyway, that sorted the fuse blowing problem and the hazards now work... however the indicators and fuel gauge would still appear to be fooked! Anyone else got any cunning input?

How can these things be working perfectly one minute then just completely go to #### the next! :smash:

Also, dunno if this makes any difference but when the hazards are on, the green trailer tell tale flashes but the actual indicator tell tale on the dash doesn't!

Fuel gauge. Check that you haven't dislodged the wires on it as you moved the dash cluster around. It's very hard not to knock something off it!

Indicators. Think it's fuse1, but is the interior light working? (Same fuse). Check the fuse itself, and the crappy holder contacts too.

Ahh, just saw your second bit. That explains the indicators.

I think you've knocked something off the flasher unit. It's a small tin box behind the cluster. Most probably the green feed.

I've found that it's not a bad idea to give a gentle squeeze to the spade connectors (with pliers) anytime you work on them. Both my Def and SIII had wires falling off when I bought them. Don't flatten them!

Will give it a shot tomorrow and see what I can see.

Edit - already given these crappy spade connectors a wee squeeze to no avail!

If that investigation doesn't work may be worth swapping the hazard switch - get lucas - they can be the cause of many indicator woes

Already done, made no difference.

Update as of this morning, everything is connected up but after the hazards working fine for ages last night the f*cking 15A fuse is blowing again.

Looking like I'm going to have to take the dashboard off and start rooting around for shorts in there... gotta love it!
