My hazard lights are playing up, when you turn them on all you get is the switch lighting up constantly and the hazards nothing at all. But if I then use the indicators they work as normal (keys not in ignition so indicators don't normaly work)

Any ideas any one?

I just noticed mine were acting up too the other day but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I only get the right hand indicators flashing but none on the left, yet they work fine as indicators and when the car is locked. Is that your wagon in the picture? It looks the same as mine, 200Tdi Ionian blue. I'll have a look this weekend if the weather's ok but hopefully somebody will have some ideas before then...

yes its mine in the pic, do you know off hand where the relay is for the hazards or does it share the indicators one?

The flasher unit is the same for the indicators and hazards. I'm guessing the fault is most likely in the hazard light switch..
According to the haynes manual, the flasher unit is either in or behind the passenger compartment fusebox.

Green/white wires go to RH lights
Green/red go to LH lights
Light green/Brown goes from flasher unit through fuse C8 to the direction switch, then on to the appropriate GW or GR wires.
Light green/brown also goes to the hazard switch which I think is what should light the bulbs in the indicators.
There's also a purple/brown wire that goes from the flasher to the hazard switch. I think this makes the light in the switch flash.
The GW and GR lights go from the hazard switch to the lights.
There's a white wire that goes from the ignition switch through fuse B3 to the hazard switch but I can't figure out what that's for.

I think I'm going to check all the connections and if they're ok, try replacing the switch and see if that fixes it.

thanks, the white wire probably does the indicators as they should only work when the ignition is running.

Had another look at the wiring diagram. The white gets routed through to the purple/brown when the hazard switch is off, so as you say works the indicators when ignition is on. With the hazard switch on, it connects the purple/brown to the battery +ve and disconnects the white wire.

So purple brown is the flasher input. The flasher unit then pulses this onto the light green brown.

Anyway, if your indicators are working but your hazards aren't, the only possible thing I can see that could be broke is the switch. It looks like the switch is all part of the unit attached to the indicator stalk though so will be more expensive

I tried my hazards last night and they are working again!
