Bit of a c***up. I haven't finished rebuilding the lower dash so have been driving around with lots of wires hanging loose, which was a daft thing to do.
On the last drive, I got a load of smoke in the cab. I stopped and sorted it out temporarily and got home.

What had happened (I think) was that the live wire to the hazard warning light had come in contact with the cab.
When I had wired this up, I followed what I think was correct practice and the feed was NOT via a fuse (presumably you don't want to lose hazard lights due to a bad fuse).
But as there was no fuse, a lot of juice went down the wire and melted the insulation. I have traced back all the damaged wires and replaced them.
Whilst I think everything else electrical is working ok, hazards and indicators are not.

From what i can tell, there are different sets of connections for different series vehicles and switches. Mine seems to match this diagram.

The Green (which DOES indicate ignition fuse on the diagram...!) is the one that melted.

Now, the query I have got relates to the switch - from what I can see, I can't see how it supposed to work.
The switch moves in and out. When it is in (i.e off) , a circular connector on the core comes in contact with some of the copper connectors to make the relevant circuits (which i understand is needed for normal indicators). When it moves out (i.e. hazards on), the circular connector on the core comes in contact with different connectors (to drive the hazards).

What i can't understand is that regardless of the position of the circular connector, the Green input connector does not come in contact with it i.e. there is never any circuit.
Which i presume is wrong.
All i can think of is that my switch is now missing some vital part (due to the heat).

I know this is difficult to put into words, but if someone had a similar hazard switch, perhaps they can tell me how this connector forms a circuit.
If the switches were just £20, i would just buy another and learn that way, but as they are £100+, i want to understand what has gone wrong before i stump up for a replacement.
