Having Fitted 3 new blend motors I still had 12 fault codes logged in my HEVAC when read using my BBS fault code reader. The reader will read the codes but will not clear them. This morning I met with Enery8 and tried his Hawkeye unit which read and cleared the faults. First time I have seen a Hawkeye system and like it very much. Wonder why my BBS FCR will not clear the HEVAC faults. It will clear all other faults though!

Keen to look at the answer to this as I am considering adding an FCR to the armoury....

Should I go for the BBS FCR - which is the one I am spying on....
or
The Bearmach Hawkeye - One I am not so sure on.....

Keen to see the remarks.
 
The Hawkeye with the new update to Version 5 has added HVAC & BECM to its talents. As Dean68uk says we connected my hawkeye to his car and cleared the faults on his HEVAC system following his fitting new blend motors.

The BECM option states as its maintenance capabilities security and programming. I am told it should be possible to re-sync using the BECM option on V5.

I have been very happy with my Hawkeye and even more so now I have version 5 - who knows what the next free update might bring!

Unlike the BBS FCR, Hawkeye is not tied to one VIN number and (mine) can be used on any P38.
 
The Hawkeye is built by Omitec who also build the T4 system. The main problem I can see with the Hawkeye is the need to buy extra cables and adapters. The standard cable does most things except the EAS and ABS on my P38. I did buy the update cable and PSU but could not make it work so sent the unit to Bearmach for update and it came back by return of post updated to V5.
 
my Fcr Will not reset my hevac faults either..... no book symbol but 13 faults showing on the fcr
 
Reasonably happy with Hawkeye. Have full set of cables and V5. Best I've used though is Autologic but is a bit pricey. Bought the Allcomms on an early offer but its a bit of a dud for me as won't do P38s and the updates never came. Ok with friends L322s though.

Hi Rasheed, I have the full set of cables as well but the one thing I feel would have been useful is inclusion of more information on the P38 in the user manual. I think that is pretty week.
I have spoken to Clive at Bearmach and he has indicated his intention to re-write the user guide so hopefully we will get a bit more info from that.
 
Iam considering buying one of these diagnostic tools.
Which one would you guys in the know recommend.
I don't really want to spend more than £500.

Faultmate every time, totally covers all systems and is well under £500 for the Nano version with a single vehicle licence, comprehensive screen displays on your laptop, live data and so on.:D:D:D

Just to put in my twopennenth, I am very happy with my V5 Hawkeye. It has certainly improved since the addition of BECM and HVAC and as dean68uk says it cleared HVAC faults his faultmate couldn't. I just wish I knew how to take full advantage of its capabilities :D:D

I carry it with me all the time and can clear problems from ABS, BECM, EAS HVAC and all in between as they occur. I can also help other P38 owners as the hawkeye is not limited to one VIN number.

I would suggest people do the research and decide on the merits of the various systems available. Hawkeye does require extra cables for some of its functions and they are expensive.
 
I got the Hawkeye a few months a go and I'm very pleased with it. I was going for the Faultmate but the price on the site is very deceptive: when I got to the checkout it was going over 700€ because shipping was not included, VAT was not included and I was even expected to pay +1% for using a VISA card!! The Hawkeye cost me about half that price and, being certainly inferior to the Faultmate, it has suited all my needs so far and I can always borrow it to friends.

Hi Manuel, Which Faultmate were you looking at? I thought that Hawkeye was more expensive than the BBS Faultmate.

Idiot proof? hmm.
One thing I would say Tony, is that the current Hawkeye instruction manual for the P38 is woefully inadequate. :doh:
However, Clive the boss at Bearmach, has told me that he intends re-writing the manual so 'hopefully' that will help. :D
So far I have managed not to cause any problems with it but I have mainly used it to check and clear faults which it does brilliantly. :D:D

Don't forget to check the price including VAT.
I emailed them in the first instance and they sent me a phone number and name to talk to. I got a discount when I ordered by phone after that email, might be worth a try. Delivery was £11 but it arrived next day.
Worth checking out the BBS Faultmate just to make sure you are getting what you want.
Where are you based, maybe someone near you has got one.
