Hi there, problem with my P38 2.5dti, takes about 3-4 heating cycles to get it started, just changed the heater plugs and that doesn't seem to have made any difference. Once it been started it starts ok for the rest of the day.
Tested the old glow plugs and they seemed alright. Help please!

How did you test the old glow plugs? Were the replacements good quality or cheapo's?
Put a voltmeter across one plug and the block and get someone to turn the key, you should see around 11 volts. If the voltage is low suspect the relay, if the volatge is good then either the plugs are NBG or possibly the engine temperature sensor is faulty, diagnostics would be needed to check that.

I need an engine temperature sensor but dont know the part No for it could anyone supply the part No and also the part No for the fuel temp sender(the one in the FIP)
As for your cold start problems check the in tank pump is working and your leak off pipes are not leaking

I have a simler problem but i know the cause
My injector is leaking from the nipple and when shut off lets air into the leckoff pipes
If i leave it any more than 2hours i have to do as you do (cycle the glow plugs) or as what im atualy doing is running the lift pump for longer
Im waiting till payday to shell out £150 on a new injector but you should check your leakoff pipes for err leaks there a common fail point
