Hi all. I bought a 96 def 110 tdi. The rear half shaft has stripped in the diff.Shaft seems ok so drive splines of the diff must have stripped.How do i fix ?Please help.

Pull out the rear half shafts, take off rear prop, unbolt the diff and that's it

have you looked at the shaft ?its more common for drive member splines to strip ,its not difficult to remove the 5 bolts holding drive member and pull half shaft out

Thanks.What do i replace in diff?Do i not then need to set backlash with shims etc?

you can remove shafts without disturbing diff ,but if you need to remove diff ,mark the 2 bearing caps so they go back in the exact same positions ,using 2 levers prise diff out after first removing both shafts ,it can the be pushed back in no adjusting or shimming is required bearings may need a tap with copper hammer etc

Thanks for that.I will need to replace damaged part in diff.How and what?
