ha ha you got a point there. I just hope it can be repaired without a new dumb iron too much time at the moment but if it needs it then safety must come first

Well I went out to have a wee poke around the S3 Landy this morning. I decided to remove the heater box from the bulkhead (the Landy is stripped down to a rolling chassis) and ended up removing the parcel shelf, heater box and found some tin worm behind the dash...right, thats it, the bulkheads coming off as well. Never ending.

Stuck my S3 in the local 4x4 garage to get rear paras fitted. Called and told rear crossmember is ****ed. £600 to change. Can't afford that so they are perching it up.
Gutted.

I feel for you fella with that unexpected news. You get enthusiastic about upgrading something and the joy is killed with other bad news.
I had a similar scenario with a simple wheel bearing change...found more than I bargained for and ended up £650 worse off ordering new swivels, bearings, seals bushes, pins, seals,track rod ends etc etc....and i've got to fit it all yet!
I had already commited to a replacement bulkhead change before this point. Dropped the landy off for the bulkhead change to find the rear main seal had just started to properly let go with a substantial ammount of oil under her when I just parked up....that's another shed load of cash on seal replacement and new clutch whilst she's in bits! This is all since February. i just pray the engine and gearbox hold up well now!
I'm now working on the principal that if something needs sorting, work out the cost and treble it because one issue seems to uncover 2 more problems! I think I still like her though (surprisingly the wife still expresses a little enthusiasm for her too now and again - so inertia reel seat belts are going in to keep her happy)
At least we're all keeping an important bit of british motoring history alive!
