I have a 1997 defender 110 Td5 that is makeing an odd noise.
When you lift your foot off the accelerator there is a whirling/grinding noise coming from the rear (maybe to the right ride slightly). If you put the throttle back on the driveshaft clunks slightly and the noise goes away.
I was thinking there maybe some play in the driveshaft CV/universal joint. so when the throttle is down and driving the wheels the torque forces the joint tighter so when you lift off and the force from the engine is releaved it can "play" again giving the grinding noise. I have topped up the rear diff oil. only other thing i can think of is rear wheel bearings.
Any ideas?
Thanks
