I was driving home last night when going up a hill my car started vibrating quite a lot like a wheel was loose, so i pulled over to try to see but couldn't work out what it was. it is like a high pitch grinding noise that but i can only hear it when going slowly and its cloncky when changing gear/pulling away.

i have no idea why this is so any suggestions would be appreciated, i have just changed the bushings on the chassis end of the rear trailing arms if that could make a difference.

Prop UJ favourite, but if not check A frame and wheel bearings

Sounds like a defender to me!!
Do you off-road it? Could be mud and stones that are grinding.
And already said UJ (props) for the clonk when changing gear.
