Afternoon everyone,

I just bought my first Land Rover and want to fit a galvanised chassis. I have seen a few companies that make these new but didnt know which one is better (Marsland or Richards). I was also up under the landy with my flash light and something to poke with to look at the tub and cargo compartment from underneath. Everywhere the Ali body was touching the steel chassis there was this tape that was shiny on one side and had a sealant on the other (tackey black). What is this stuff called so I can order some new. I appreciate everyones help, this sight is awesome.

Sold my TJ to by a LR 90 and am as happy as I can be
Thanks again,
Doug

That tape is some ones attempt to stop the alli/steel corossion, a good coating of wax between the parts does just as good. As for the chassis some people prefer marshlands as the chassis rail are made from 2 C sections just like the original chassis where as Richards are mad of 4 flat pieces and welded at the corners. Both are good construction and i have heard people say that richards chassis are a better fit.

If that chassis isnt that bad proper welding repairs and a good coat of waxoyl will keep it going for a long time before you need to swap thae chassis

Maybe not so important on a Defender yet but i read lots of good things about the Richards chassis on the s2 forum attention to detail model specific etc
Whereas Marsland seem to do a generic chassis.

Thank you very much for the information, I was leaning toward Richards chassis because of what I saw on their website. I noticed a few areas under the tub where the ali was almost completly gone. When I get it off I will clean it real good. Is it like steel rust where you need to treat it from gettin worse or if you put a barrier between the steel and ali will it stop coroding further?

Thanks again for all you help.

i dont believe you can do anything apart from replacing and removing causes like contact with steel and moisture
