So this is really a research for next years project, And its hot out there so have been inside looking/digging again.
I have a 96 P38 whole (but spares) with a great engine+box.
I have a widget to solder into the ECU to make it run standalone (without BECM). Once the widget is in place it needs to be put into security learn mode (no issues there) but I need to now give it the code from the BECM, it will accept the first code it gets then not ever need it again.

So the question is.

Do I need to jury rig the BECM to the wiring with the ECU and RF reciver then hope the key "blips" it or do I need to use the ignition lock and/or door lock.
Should I just jury rig it back in the P38 as I have only removed the engine+box at this time? Before I remove anything else I need.
I think this is probably the route to take, but how would I know if it worked if its not connected to the engine to start?

Does anybody know what the signal is and if so could I send it somehow, easy? I understand the key Is a rolling code? but is the mobilization "ok to start" signal the same? Or is it a yes/no signal?

I need to print some/alot of RAVE wiring docs and take a closer look. I have all the BECM & ECU pin outs so should be able to check if its got the start signal, but its a maze.

Any suggestions?

Read this. If the widget you have is the LRNAFOUT, it programs the GEMS ECU with FFFF so it doesn't need the code from BECM.

No its not the "FOUT".
It needs learn and 1 start/imobilizer signal.

Its long term and dont need it tomorrow .

Never tried it, but in theory you could do it with a Nanocom (although Nanocom might not allow FFFF).

1. In BECM menus write FFFF into the Immobilisation code.
2. In GEMS Utility menu put GEMS into Learn Mode.
3. Turn ignition off-on to trigger the BECM to sned the FFFF code to GEMS.

Based on the LR doc, once the GEMS has learnt that it should work without needing a code in the future ?

All that is based around it all being in a "powered up" P38. It might be the way I have to do it.

Yes powered up & then the normal BECM start action. Doesn't matter if the engine actually runs, just for GEMS to learn the code.

I read somewhere that Morgan V8 GEMS was programmed with the same code so it didn't require a BCM of any sort. . . . but treat that as a rumour rather than fact !!

No I belive it will work once it has the signal/code. But is there a signal I could send? How do I know it has had the signal?

Because there would be time between doing this and finally finding out.

Maybe I should just get it back in the garage and deal with this bit first before I take off too much.

The thing is I wanting to know if its a signal I can replicate and send easliy?
Before I rip too much out.

You would need to find what data the Nanocom sends to GEMS for learn mode, plus the data format the BECM sends during starting. The GEMS will be some kind of LR specific command code via the OBD protocol. I suspect the BECM enable signal uses similar format, but I don't know the protocol.

It's not a go/nogo signal but serial data containing the code from the BECM. With everything connected as normal, just turning on the ignition should be sufficient as that is when the code is sent.

I guess the easiest is as I said and get it all sort of close and back together and power it up.

I just wanted to confirm my thinking.

Serial code I don’t know so certainly can’t get round that. So yes having it all connected back up is seeming easiest way at the moment.

Will have to read it again, but the way I read it the syncmate still needs everything connected. Need to reread to see the FOUT reference.
