hi all looking for help please my old 110 defender is started not wanting to go into first gear I really have to push it also grinding sound when put her in reverse please advise thank you , other gear seem ok ,

uh oh, somethin's gon bang... either clutch not engaging properly, or the gearbox is f'ed. I would assume gearbox though, given the symptoms. If it is, either get a recon one, or get the current one down to that LR gearbox factory, they will get it sorted.

It's a clutch problem not gearbox, have you got a full clutch pedal or does it go down some way before you get resistance? If you have a full pedal then I suspect the cover plate is letting go.

No clutch pedal goes half way down before it works

Check fluid level,and that nut's on master cyl rod have not unwound.
