disco and deepender both use LT77 boxes (except fur the later discos which use R380 boxes) so no benefit, the discos use a "short stick" gear shift which is not easy to swap with to a defender. the R380 needs new prop shafts n stuff too. 
that is not to say it isnt possible - just unnecessary.

use a defender lt77 with a discovery transfer box give you 15% higher gears and better more comfortable gears
