Now then fellow range Roverists. Having enjoyed a good couple of trouble free months ye olde Rangey has thrown a curved ball into the mix.
There is a distinct, almost non metallic sounding noise coming from the front right wheel area. I appreciate that trying to diagnose a noise over the WWW is pretty well impossible but I'll try and give you as good a descrition as I can.
At speed, sounds similar to metal on metal brake disc/pad interaction.
At crawling speed sounds almost like someone running their thumb down the teeth of one of those rigid plastic combs.
Does it in both low and high ranges and both forward and reverse.
On left handers the noise almost dissapears but not so on right handers.
I have checked all the usual suspects. wheel is ok. Brakes are fine with no signs of contact on either disc or caliper/pads.
So.. Over to you fine fellows. Any guesses or ideas.

Quite possibly. I know bearing noise can manifest itself in a few ways, but there's been no previous warning like whining or droning noises. Spinning the wheels just reveals a tight spot which is one of the discs which has warped, (Another job for the week) No excessive end float detected.. In fact no discernible end float detected. The only thing I found out of sorts was the retaining screw for the disc was missing.
Oh well got a trip to Norwich tomorrow, best check my Green flag membership is up to date.

Or maybe ABS sensor pushed so far down it is clipping the teeth on the hub? Not sure that is even possible but might explain the comb noise and would be less hassle!

The back plate on the brakes ,slack .loose ,and bending with the breeze.Then rubbing the disk.

Well. Had the wheels off, calipers off. Inspected the discs, backplates anything that rotates or is even close to something that rotates. Had my nephew hanging out the car while driving (slowly) and have come to the following conclusion. . . . . It's bloody frustrating!!!!

This is the one that my nephew and I have come up with as being a likely possibility. .

Would have liked it to have been this simple but it's the comb clicking type noise that suggests it might be something else.
We can't recreate the noise by spinning the wheels. So probability is it's a weight/pressure issue. Wheel bearing? (Smooth as silk the pair of them) CV joint? (None of the classic CV related noises)
But???? If I had more hair I'd pull it out.

It's gone, Emigrated, Removed itself from audible range..... Drove down to Norfolk and back yesterday and by the time I'd gone 30 miles it had reduced to a slight squeak. When I arrived at my destination it had gone completely. So it's either worn itself out or fallen off!

I haven't driven it yet today but fingers crossed. .
