Hi all, last year the little filter on the end of my fuel sender fell off into the tank….Ive been running it this way with no problems at all. I’ve just changed the main fuel filter and I wonder just how important the filter at the sender end is ? If anyone knows where to get one of the little filters I’d be very grateful, I can’t find any info anywhere…..

Take it you are diesel? If so no real issues with fuel in the UK.
Aye,yes forgot to say, 2.25 diesel . I was wondering whether the absence of the wee filter might cause the sender to suck up crud from the tank? Hmmm,m
 
Take the sender out of tank and have a look as to amount of crud in tank with a torch.
Change filter again soon and see what's in it.
 
Tried that….cant see a thing in the tank and the bung on the bottoms seized.

Changed the filter today will cut the old one open and see what’s in it only changed it last year but a couple,of days ago it was rough to start so changed fuel filter now alls well hence my suspecting crud getting sucked up via sender. Might solder a gauze kind of cage round the bottom of it, that might do, fine wire gauze maybe….more thinking 🤔

I should add for context that the rover spent its life from 1978 until 2018 in the Canary Islands, on Tenerife and latterly Fuerteventura when we moved. I’m suspecting the tank might be badly contaminated with the very fine, almost caster sugar consistency dust we used to get over there. Wondering whether I should just drop the tank and see…..

A 'gauze kind of cage' is exactly what my Lightweight has!

If you have skinny arms you can clean out tank through the hole and seal with tank sealer gives a nice clean finish and then your confident all crud out , but need to remove tank to roll it around to get even. Covering of sealer paint
 
I’m 6’4 and 18st with arms like a gorilla…..only way I think is to drop the tank. Madly annoying that the bung is seized, tried it last year but was worried about ripping the arse oot the tank
 
Hah helps when you’re 8 stone , Yes be wary it’s very thin on btm protected by the bottom cover which is sturdy and silver soldered on
