I've been lurking for a while and solved a few problems from advice on this board.

However after leaving my P38 standing for a few days nothing would start it.

Visions of getting a mechanic out made me rush back here and then like those google medical boards I feared the worst.

To cut a long story short I have AA home start so called them out.
After an hour of poking and probing he discovered perished return pipes from the injectors. He replaced a section and primed and lo and behold it burst in to life.

The question is what do I need to do to replace these rubber/fabric pipes and where do I get them?

Go to a proper motor factors and get proper spill pipe. Cut to length rub some rubber solution into each end for about half an inch to hold the braid from fraying let it dry and push them fully on. Can be a bit awkward, a pair of sniped nose pliers helps.

Is this a common problem on the old P38?

I had scanned through too many old threads and mis-diagnosed a faulty in- tank pump.

I was a bit naughty in as much as I had AA relay etc but no homestart. You can add that on your membership but have to wait 24 hours before calling them out!

It's a fairly common problem on most diesels. The pipe on yours might be the original and it just dies over the years. Be careful as you replace them, you don't want to snap a nipple off an injector.
