Hello All,

I own a 98 Tacoma 4WD with a 2.7L engine. Well just yesterday I
noticed a noise from the front driver side wheel well. It started
suddenly. The noise sound like a quiet swishing type of grating which
has a definite point in the wheel rotation where it is loud then
dissapears until it reaches that spot again. I pulled the wheel off
and turned the hub around and the noise is coming from the hub
somewhere. As I said it sound like about one fifth of the rotation is
rubbing something and making a grating noise. Does this sound like
wheel bearings? It has 46,000 miles on it and I did the 30,000 mile
mainteance myself (I keep a log and receipts). I only checked the
bearings with the push pull test and it seemed OK. I have Extra Care
and hope this will cover the problem if it is the bearings, but we
will see. Any advice or opinions appreciated.

I would pop the pads out and try to push the caliper pistons back in,
you may find one or more is seized. I've burned up a pair of 4 piston
Toyota Calipers in less then two years myself.
