I am going to replace both upper shock mount bearings to try and get rid of the knocking over bumps.Everything else it could be has been eliminated.Is there anything else up there i should replace while i have it stripped down.

The factory Delphi shocks can cause a knock. It's common on Rover cars too.

Is this easy to spot when you have the units off ?

The shocks are gas pressurised which makes testing difficult. I had a knocking shock on my ZS. I cut it open to see where the problem was. The noise originated from the piston head that was loose enough on the shaft to rattle.
I suspect the Freelander shocks are similar in design.
Try stripping the spring off and try to replicate the action of the road by pushing the shaft down abruptly.

when you put it back together make sure you have the wheels facing strait a head and not left or right because as you tighten the top nut up it will pull to the left or right if your wheels are facing that way ,but just to note a few years ago on my old freelander I had a knock like that ,and it was the nuts on top of the turret that were not tight ,and if you are doing the job I would replace the top bearing unless you know them to be in good order hope this helps

Ok thanks for that tip.Was just going to replace top mount and bearing to start with for about 60 quid rather than the shocks as well as they about 140.If i have to replace the shocks aswell at least everything should of been freed off recently so shouldnt be a big job.
