Today I had the engine cover off and was checking the injector loom connection for contamination. I notice this black plastic disc in front of me and wondered what it was (obviously I know now). Anyway, is this supposed to move in any way, seeing as it's a seal? mine goes around in circles and pulls out a bit!! It doesn't seem right. Should it be tight?

Did mine this week, replaced and the new one is nice and tight also whilst I was checking the wiring loom. Guess what is next on my list? LOL

Have you got a load of black gunk over the front of your engine?

Easy change for a few notes.

Yes, Yes I have a lot of gunk in and around this seal.

I take it the photos are not of yours? no gunk there.

You can see the oil in both my loom and the gunk over the front of my engine in the photo.

No, that's not my engine. But your pic is exactly how mine looks. I take this is down to seepage from a poor camshaft seal?

I hope so, and the difference in the fit is amazing. although I have to think that just changing the o ring would do the same thing and be cheaper.

Umm, food for thought. Perhaps i'll try an O ring first! Not that I'm tight mind you!

If you can get one the right size, the old one was squished to hell, hence why it was so loose. Not sure you would be able to get a good measurement to find a replacement O ring.

I decided it was worth getting a new complete one, because it is not as if the part iis a consumable / service part.

I think you're right, neilly. I've just had a quick look and can't find an actual part number for an O ring. That means spending about £6, for christ sakes.

All clean at the ECU end. A bit dirty on the connection as it goes up underneath the rocker box cover. I sprayed it with contact cleaner, dried it off and now it;s nice and clean again, I'll be replacing the loom shortly.

Fair enough, But does that make it a service item, because it is listed as such in the manual, or is it your personal choice? is it loose every year?

Personal choice, as they are cheap worth replacing, saves all the mess when the oil hits the fan

Just changed my loom today. Started of changing the top hose, then thought I might as well stick an egr blanking kit on I had in my garage, then thought I'd check the loom only to find oil at the ecu. So cleaned it all up. Now the M&S lights have gone out so to have the 3 amigos. Not sure if it's a coincidence or if it's helped by re newing the loom. happy days though.

Hi Kernkow,

FYI, I ordered one from ribble valley on fleabay, £27.50, allmakes PR2 brand AMR6103G. arrived next day. Gasket from JGS £5.50, hope this helps.

Hi Kernowkid. I bought mine through RST which sell on eBay. Ordered the loom and the gasket in the morning and it was on the doorstep less than 24hrs later. I think the loom was around £27 and the gasket was £8.44 all free postage.
I took I would say about an hour to change but that included cleaning up the oily plugs and the area around the ecu.
One small tip would be which took me a while to work out. When you put the new gasket on push the rubber grommet things that the bolts go through, up into the gasket as this will hold the gasket on when you turn it over to refit the rocker cover.

Just checked the red plug again after an hours running and there is more oil there. Obviously still coming down the wire so it will be a case of cleaning up a few times I think before its cleared.
Found out though that the three amigos and the M&S lights are on until I clean the connector and ecu and then they go. Could be a coincidence I suppose.
